Introduction to Protection Dog Training Levels

Dog Training Levels For Levels I, II, III and Executive Protection Dogs

Training Levels We Offer

It is important to understand that all Personal Protection Dog companies and their training programs are not created equal. Most companies do not have a clearly communicated or defined set of standards from which they operate. When doing your research to determine what training level you and your family may require, we at VFS have made it simple. We follow the “5 Critical Concepts” when training all of our dogs. We then perform “Scenario Based Training” on each dog to determine the Level the dog will be ranked. All of our dogs have exceptional obedience, partnershipping skills, and bond extremely well with our customers.

What Are the “5 Critical Concepts”?

There are “Five Critical Concepts” that must be in place in order to have a Personal Protection Dog. By definition a Personal Protection Dog must be able to defend against:

  1. Multiple aggressors, armed or unarmed
  2. Home invasion situations
  3. Car jacking situations (all situations associated with you and your vehicle)
  4. Child abduction and or kidnapping (non aggressive approach)
  5. They must be able to do interior building searches (like your home), exterior building searches (like buildings or barns), and sweep your front yard and back yard for intruders

If all of these “Five Critical Concepts” that are definitive of a Personal Protection dog, Family Protection Dog, Home Protection Dog, and our Executive Protection Dogs, are not in place, you do not have a Personal Protection Dog.

We provide our customers with four options in our Protection Dog packages, Levels I, II and III and Executive Protection Dogs. All Protection Dog packages will meet the Five Critical Concepts listed above. So, what makes a Level I dog versus an Executive Protection Dog? Level I Dogs perform fewer Scenario Based Training exercises than the other levels.

The definition of Scenario is as follows: An imagined or projected sequence of events, especially any of several detailed plans or possibilities or one act plays. Or simply put a simulated reenactment of an actual event.

Warning: Given the right situation, under enough pressure dogs will fail. Any company who does not do many “Scenario Based Training” exercises are producing inferior dogs and could be setting the customer up for disaster. This is extremely important to understand. Most companies do not train “Scenario Based Training” exercises because they do not adhere to the “Five Critical Concepts” rule.

These “Five Critical Concepts” do not come naturally to working dogs. They must be trained and exercised by numerous “Scenario Based Training” situations with a variety of stresses being applied to the dog.

Warning: Do not be fooled. If you are searching the web to purchase a dog and it has not been trained to meet the “Five Critical Concepts” that define a Personal Protection Dog it is not a Personal Protection Dog.

If you are searching the web and the dog you may be considering was not trained with numerous “Scenario Based Training” exercises you are going to have a dog that will fail, putting you and your family in harms way. This is a dangerous situation.

“Details Make The Difference”

We deliver all levels of our dogs, from Level I, to our Executive Personal Protection Dog. We do this for a flat rate of $2000 which covers the initial delivery to your location. You will be responsible for the cost of lodging, food and fuel. Most companies just ship the dog to you by air. You are responsible for picking the dog up at the airport and then you are on your own. Or you are required to go to the company’s facility to get the needed training. We will personally guide you in the introduction stage, settling in phases, obedience (partnership phase), and personal protection phase, as determined by the skill level of the dog that you purchase. We at VFS value all of our customers and feel the training provided at your location is an important part of the process. This is to insure success with your Home Protection Dog, or Executive Personal Protection Dog.

We are the only company that I know of that will provide refresher training for you and your Family Personal Protection Dog for up to 3 years after the sale. We do not charge for our time or training on our extended training package. We come to your location for expenses.

If at any time your situation or the requirements of the dog would change, we will put additional training on your dog at VFS. The charge for additional training varies in accordance with time and skills sets required.

Not everything is equal in the dog world. The level of training, the quality of training, and the pricing are not the same from one company to another. Before you buy a dog you need to look over the training that we at VFS put on our dogs. You will see a big difference.
